PROS:
CONS:
The Dyson 360 Eye is a smart and highly efficient robot vacuum. It is powerful, it has a 360-degree camera and a dedicated app. On the downside, it is a bit tall and it is very expensive.
The Dyson 360 Eye robot vacuum cleaner is produced by Dyson Ltd, a British company founded in 1991. The company specializes in household appliances and in addition to robot vacuums it also manufactures hair care products (such as the famous Dyson Supersonic hair-dryer), heaters and fans, hand dryers and more.
The Dyson 360 Eye is a smart vacuum with a 360 degrees eye vision, a dedicated app which is compatible with iOS and Android devices, voice control and many other useful features.
Here are the main specs of the 360 Eye:
Design
The Dyson 360 Eye has a really futuristic design. It is gray with blue accents, it is relatively small but a bit on the tall side, due to its V2 digital motor inside. That might make it difficult for the 360 Eye to squeeze under some types of furniture.
The robot looks solidly built and it can easy be taken apart so that you can clean its components: the filter, the dust bin which needs to be regularly emptied and so on.
On the bottom you’ll find the sensors, the tank tracks which help it move and the rotary brush, which is made of carbon fiber filaments and nylon bristles and it pretty much gives you the impression that the 360 Eye can clean everything in its path. The type and design of the brush allows the robot to obtain good results on all types of surfaces, whether they are hard floors or carpets.
The vacuum has a big round button on top, which serves both as a power button and a status indicator, as it can show you how much battery there is left and when it is time to empty the bin. In case of an error, the status indicator will also light up.
There is also a USB port on the back, for scenarios in which you have to upload a bug fix, but hopefully, that won’t be the case.
Features
One of the most interesting features of the 360 Eye is its 360 degree camera on top of the vacuum, with the panoramic lens. It maps the area at 30 fps and it is a very useful technology that helps the robot know exactly where it needs to go and clean.
The 360 Eye can be controlled either directly from the power button or through the dedicated app, the Dyson Link. The second option is better, as the app gives you customization options and it is more complex.
The app is compatible with iOS and Android and it is easy to set up, thanks to the clear instructions. Once you create an account and connect to a WiFi, you pair it with your device and you are good to go. The robot features voice control as well.
Via the Dyson Link app you can schedule cleanings, you can switch between the cleaning modes (Quiet or Max), you can learn how to clean and take care of the vacuum components and more.
The Dyson 360 Eye has a pretty steep price. You won’t find it under $1,430. The product comes with a 2-year warranty and in the box you’ll also get the charging dock, which is foldable, and the power brick.
When it comes to cleaning abilities, the 360 Eye will truly shine. It uses its camera to map out the room, it divides it methodically into quadrants and starts cleaning in grid patterns. The vacuum is so smart that if you interrupt its cleaning cycle and move it in a different place, it will return to the original area to finish cleaning where it initially started.
The Dyson 360 Eye can cope with all types of surfaces and gathers everything in its path, as long as it is solid matter.
One aspect that didn’t really impress us however was its battery life, which is not that great. The 360 Eye has a runtime of only 45 minutes, which is not that great or even close to its competitors (the Neato Botvac Connected for instance has a runtime of 3 hours). Once the battery is depleted, the Dyson 360 Eye knows to return by itself to the charging dock and takes about 2 hours and a half to recharge. If you do want to get more cleaning time, you can use the robot in its Quiet mode, which will use a smaller power suction and will also make the vacuum 35% quieter. In the quiet mode you’ll get a runtime of approximately 70 minutes.
The Dyson 360 Eye is without a doubt a powerful and smart beast. It has great cleaning abilities and uses a real smart and advanced mapping technology. However, it is really pricey and doesn’t have the most impressive runtime.
