PROS:
CONS:
Intuit, the company that developed QuickBooks, is a very reputable and experienced company, on the market since 1983. QuickBooks online is one of the most popular cloud-based accounting software out there. What makes it so appreciated is the fact that it is extremely user-friendly, highly customizable and it comes with a plethora of useful features and hundreds of available integrations.
QuickBooks Online is cloud-based and it is developed by Intuit. The company was founded in 1983, so we are definitely not talking about some novices in this field. Intuit is based in California, US. This company’s first product was Quicken, which was released in 1984. The first version of QuickBooks was only launched in 2002.
Intuit doesn’t just offer cloud-based accounting software, they also have desktop products (QuickBooks Pro, Premier and Enterprise), but in this review we are going to focus on QuickBooks Online.
Intuit has more than 4.3 million customers worldwide. Its products are suited for independent contractors and small businesses and include a free 30 days trial and generous discounts, up to 50% off.
All 4 plans have some features in common: track income & expenses, invoice and accept payments, the ability to run reports. QuickBooks has very affordable prices, although you have to pay extra if you want to add payroll ($25/month +$5/month/employee).
Some more advanced features are only available with some of the plans: send estimates (all plans except Self-Employed), mileage tracking (just with Self-Employed), track sales and sales tax (all except Self-Employed), multiple users/manage bills/track time (only available with Essentials and Plus), track inventory/create and manage budgets (just with Plus).
There are also apps available on Google Play and App Store, but they are not available for the Self-Employed plan, only for the other three. Mobile apps let you reconcile transactions, create invoices and more.
QuickBooks it is well known and appreciated for its beautiful, intuitive and user-friendly interface. In order to get started you have to type in the general info about your business, so that the program can create a personalized profile for you. You have to select the tools you need more, such as accounting, expense tracking, invoicing, etc.
If you have any trouble setting everything up, you can also watch their instructional videos, but that’s pretty much all the help you are going to get in terms of guidance. That is why it is a good thing that QuickBooks is straightforward and easy to figure out.
Just to get an idea of how it is organized, you will have the next tabs on the left: Dashboard, Banking, Sales (where you can also find inventory, invoicing, customer management), Expenses, Employees, Reports, Taxes, Accounting, Apps.
QuickBooks really shines when it comes to its invoicing tools. It is one of the most customizable program on the market. You can choose between 5 invoice templates and QuickBooks allows you to personalize the font, logo, header and footer, etc. You can also import templates from Word.
Invoices are not the only ones that come with great customization options. QuickBooks has dozens of templates for reports and they can also be personalized.
Creating estimates is a one-click task, you can convert them to invoices and you can create recurring invoices, schedule reminders and you can track invoices. A very useful feature is the fact that when you create an invoice, if there is saved contact information, QuickBooks fills it in automatically. The only missing feature is the automatic payment reminder.
The software compensates though through its unlimited number of inventory products.
With QuickBooks you can accept invoice payments online and you can link your credit card/bank account.
The contact management features are also solid. This program allows you to add a lot of information about the vendors and customers: personal info, billing/shipping address, a display name, default tax codes, desired payment method and more. QuickBooks support multi-currencies, too.
QuickBooks integrates with more than 400 third-party apps and supports Zapier. You can find integrations for payments, ecommerce and so on: PayPal, Square, Stripe, Authorize.Net, Magento, Zendesk, Temponia are just a few examples, but there are many more.
QuickBooks Online has 4 plans to choose from: Self-Employed, Simple Start, Essentials, Plus.
Self-Employed: $5/month
Simple Start: $10/month
Essentials: $24/month
Plus: $35/month

Customer support is not the best quality of QuickBooks, although you can contact them via phone, live chat or e-mail. Phone hours are: Monday-Friday: 6 am – 6 pm PST and Saturday, 6 am – 3 pm. But as an overall opinion, we found their support to be quite slow and disappointing.
Another way to go would be to use their online resources, FAQ section, tutorials, webinars, articles, videos, blog, etc.
