COMPLETE REVIEW

Aimersoft DVD Copy found its way into our top ten DVD copy software because it’s reliable and versatile. It produces great copies of your favorite DVDs, it gives you the option of backing up your discs and it offers sufficient support should you run into any problems. Nevertheless, Aimersoft lacks some additional features other similar top tier products in our review had.

Features

One of the best things about this DVD copier is the amazing quality of the discs you create. To create an identical copy of your favorite commercial DVD, you should use a double layered DVD-9. Insuring you’re copying onto a larger capacity blank disc means there’s no unnecessary compression and therefore the inevitable loss of image quality. Although double layered discs can be pricy, if you want an exact duplicate of your original DVD, you should pay a little more to get what you want. The loss in quality happens when you try to copy a commercial DVD onto a regular blank one. Depending on the individual copying software, the image quality varies, but we have recorded a loss with every product we tested. Although we noticed smaller pixelation and image distortion, Aimersoft did better than many similar products in our lineup. Despite our results, this kind of degradation in image quality can only be noted on a larger resolution HDTV, otherwise, you might not even notice it.

If you still want to save some money and go for a regular disc copy, Aimersoft has the Main Movie module. Since most commercial DVDs, especially special or limited editions, come with a lot of extra content, with Main Movie you can easily strip the DVD of everything except the film. This is the best option for copying onto a regular DVD-5 disc since there’s no compression because all the extra files have been left out. This way you’ll be getting a much higher quality disc than you would have by making a compressed copy.

To prevent unlawful duplication, most commercial DVDs have some form of encryption that prevents regular copying programs from making duplicates. Aimersoft DVD Copy fights the most common CSS, RC and RCE encryptions with its own integrated decryption software. Unlike some other products we reviewed, this software has the decrypter preinstalled so you don’t have to worry about browsing the web for plugins.

Although Aimersoft DVD Copy has all the essential features we look for in a DVD copy software, it lacks some more advanced tools that suit more tech savvy users. We mentioned earlier that sometimes a commercial disc can be too big, so in order to make an identical copy on a regular DVD disc you need to strip it of its additional content. Aimersoft lacks a feature that would allow you to automatically split the original DVD into two discs – one with the movie, and the other with everything else. There’s also no way you can merge two DVDs onto one disc. This is a great option since it allows you to put certain movies or TV shows that have several sequels or seasons onto one DVD. Despite these missing options, Aimersoft DVD Copy is still a DVD copier worth taking a look at.

Please note that the DMCA, which is the Digital Millennium Copyright Act is against copying any specific encryption that is on commercial discs. There are no exceptions to this, and at ReviewFyer we do not encourage, endorse, or support any illegal activity at all.  This software is meant to be used as intended within the constraints of the law.

Performance

Aimersoft DVD Copy is fast and easy to use and it allows you to customize the copies you wish to make. For ease of use, it has a Main Movie mode that automatically strips the copy of everything but the film itself. It also has a decryptor, but it lacks the ability to merge and split DVDs.
