Samsung has always been a major player on the 4K TV market and their offer is wide enough to meet all types of budgets and expectations.
Their QLED series is the most premium one they have and if you’ve ever watched something on a Samsung QLED TV, you’ll understand why. There’s just something about the colors in a Samsung TV that is specific to this brand and quite hard to compete with.
What the Q6F brings to the table
The Q6F, also known as Q6FN and even Q6, was released in the summer of 2018 and it is the most affordable QLED TV produced by Samsung. You can find it in several sizes: 49, 55, 65, 75 and 82 inches. The 65-inch version seems to be the most popular one and you can get it for approximately $1,300.
The Q6F is equipped with the same Samsung proprietary quantum dot technology, which translates into brighter colors than standard LED TV’s can deliver. This technology makes it possible for the Q6F to reproduce up to 1 billion shades. The Q6F is a 4K TV with a resolution of 3,840 x 2,160, 4 HDMI ports and 2 USB ports.

The Q6F keeps that same slim, beautiful Samsung design, with thin bezels, and it looks good from all sides. Even the back of the TV, with its horizontal striations, looks great. The Q6F comes with Samsung’s One Remote Control, named that way because it can detect and control any connected devices.
The Q6F features HDR capabilities, which means a more detailed and realistic image and a better contrast.
Respecting the Samsung standard, the Q6F has smart features, too. It uses the Tizen platform, has all your common apps installed on it, such as Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Videos and many others. An interesting one is the SmartThings app, which allows you to connect the TV to various smart devices and appliances in your home, such as your fridge, smartphone, etc. The Q6F also features the Bixby voice assistant. The interface is clean and user-friendly.
The Magic Screen is also a nice touch. Whenever you’re not watching the TV, you can configure it to still display various things that you might find useful or entertaining. You can turn it into a digital photo frame and display photos on it, you can set it up to show the time, weather and more.
What’s good in the Q6F
Even though it is a low-end QLED TV in the Samsung lineup, the Q6F is still a popular model and for good reasons.
Its price is definitely a selling point. The fact that you get QLED HDR technology, 4K resolution and smart capabilities in the $1,000 price range, is not something to turn your head away from.
The design of the Q6F is also attractive. It is slim, elegant and has thin bezels.
The image quality of the Q6F is another pro. This TV delivers a detailed and bright image, with rich colors and a good contrast.
Performance-wise, the Samsung Q6F is great for watching sports and action programs with fast frames and it can also offer a smooth gaming experience, thanks to its reduced lag.
The smart features of the TV are also aligned with the standard, so you get all the basic 2018 smart TV capabilities.
The bad
While the Q6F is indeed a great QLED TV, it does have its shortcomings, otherwise you wouldn’t find it in this price range.
One of its biggest flaws is related to its viewing angles, which are not the greatest. When you watch the TV from certain angles, meaning you’re not placed in the center, you will notice some degradation in colors. It is also a bit reflective.
Also image related, we have to mention the edge-lit LED backlighting technology found in the Q6F. Edge-lit will never be as good as the full-array technology. The difference lies in how the LCD pixels are illuminated by the LEDs. In short, full array is superior to edge-lit. Edge-lit TVs don’t deliver such great black levels. If your eye is trained, you can notice that when you’re watching a night scene in a movie for instance. On the other hand, full-array TVs are thicker and heavier, so you lose points in design.
Conclusion
Overall though, the Samsung Q6F has definitely got more going in its favor than against it. When we’re talking about ‘cons’, we’re giving you the absolute unmerciful expert opinion, based on detailed and accurate image quality/performance tests. However, for the average consumer, the image quality of the Q6F will most likely seem astounding. Add to that the smart capabilities, the beautiful design and the affordability of the Q6F and you’ve got a great deal.
