Bluetooth speakers are great little entertainment gadgets. They are small enough to easily be carried around, they don’t necessarily require a plug to work, some of them are waterproof and they are equipped with various useful features.
What to look for in a Bluetooth speaker
Here are some general guidelines to follow when looking for a Bluetooth speaker:
- Wattage: the output power of the speaker determines how loud the speaker will be. The higher the wattage, the louder the speaker
- Frequency response: it is also important for the quality of sound. The wider the range, the clearer and more detailed the sound. Humans hear from 20 Hz to 20 kHz
- Battery capacity. Because Bluetooth speakers are meant to be portable, one of the most important things about them is their battery life. Look for a speaker with a long battery life. Some brands can even go for 35 hours of playback or more
- Weight and size. Again two important aspects in any portable Here you must make the best compromise between size and power, because if you go for the smallest speaker out there, the drivers in it will also be very small which means a lower wattage, hence a lower volume
- Features; here are some of the most important to consider: waterproofness, NFC connectivity, hands-free functionality, voice control
Denon Envaya DSB-250BT – is it a good speaker to consider?
The Envaya DSB-250BT is the most expensive and high-end portable speaker offered by Denon. Denon is a Japanese electronics company renowned for Hi-Fi audio products, for both consumer and professional use. The company was founded in 1939.
The Envaya speaker is a 1.65 pounds speaker that measures 2.91 X 8.23 X 2.91 inches.
The speaker has a common design, it is black with rubberized plastic on the sides and fabric on the front. It is a relatively small and light speaker so carrying around with you, in your purse, backpack and so on, will not be a problem. But if you want something even smaller, Denon has 2 other models that are even smaller than this one: the Envaya Pocket and Envaya Mini.
The controls of the Envaya are on the left side (power button, volume settings and Bluetooth and call buttons).
Battery life: The DSB-250BT has a run time of approximately 13 hours, which is a good number, above the average. It takes about 3.5 hours to get fully charged.
The Envaya DSB-250BT has an IP67 rating, meaning it is water and dust proof. You can immerse the speaker in water of max. 1 m depth for up to half an hour and it will still work. We don’t necessarily recommend you to do so, but it is reassuring to know that this little gadget can cope with any kind of heavy rain, in case you take it with you when you go camping, for instance.
The DSB-250BT is equipped with two 40mm full range drivers, has a micro-USB port and a 3.5mm input jack.
This is not a very complex speaker and if you want something with lots of features, maybe this is not the speaker for you. You won’t get any voice control, NFC or WiFi with the DSB-250BT. What you’ll get instead is a very impressive sound quality.
The sound quality of the Envaya DSB-250BT is why the speaker is so pricey. The speaker can get real loud, it delivers a powerful bass and clear high frequencies. The sound is really balanced and detailed and dynamic, so your music will sound great even at low volumes.
Price. The Envaya DSB-250BT is not the most affordable Bluetooth speaker you can find. It goes for approximately $200, but you’ll get a great speaker, light, waterproof, with a good battery life and a great sound quality.
