When it comes to headphones, a lot of people have different criteria for buying them. These may include factors like sound quality, comfort in using, and design. AKG K72 checks out two of these, with design being its weakest factor. We have done a small write up here about the main features of the product but have a full in depth review of the AKG k72 on our top headphones chart.

Sound quality

The sound quality of the headphones makes it a good buy. It can even be comparable to those headphones in the 100 Euro range, meaning that it is excellent in this category. It can handle complicated beats and basses without sounding messy. The midrange for the headphones is at normal quality, sometimes becoming a little held back at louder volumes.

The headphones use 40 mm professional drivers that ensure good sound quality. The frequency range of the headphones is 16 Hz – 20,000 Hz.

It may sound a little bit murky during higher frequencies but still on a decent quality. Overall, it is a good pick based solely on sound quality. These headphones are aimed for mixing and editing audio, meaning that their quality is good enough to be used inside studios. Aside from this, the K72 are also good for watching movies and listening to music.

Design

This is where the AKG K72 are the weakest, compared to popular headphone brands like SkullCandy and Sennheiser which are known for their sleek and modern looks.

The AKG K72 is notable for its twin leather bands that might be a hit-or-miss for others who may want to use it for listening while on the street. They are easily seen in public. The thick and long wires from the headphones may also make them hard to carry around in general, due to inconvenience.

The design of the K72 may be good for those who may prefer staying indoors. The huge ear pads are comfortable on the ears, with a design adjusted perfectly to the ears. These ear pads are also replaceable and they don’t put unintended pressure on your head.

Although this may be good news for those looking for comfort, it may be a bad thing looking for good noise isolation. The loose fit of the headphones makes it easy for outside noise to enter. This makes it a bad pair of headphones to use outdoors.

Product specs

AKG K72 have a fixed 3m cable, professional grade 40 mm audio drivers, a sensitivity of 112 dB SPL/V, an input power of 200mW, a rated impedance of 32 Ohms, and a frequency response of 16 – 20000 Hz.

Should you buy the AKG K72

For those who are keen on audio specs and sound quality, the AKG 72 definitely do not disappoint. For their low price, people will be surprised to know of the headphones’ audio output. User comfort is also ensured with these headphones.

The only con that can be seen for the AKG K72 is its lack of aesthetics. This may be a deal breaker for some who may want to get headphones that will match outdoor looks and fashion. Aside from this, their noise isolation is also limited, with them being best used inside studios and homes.
