PROS:
CONS:
The Residential VoIP service offered by 1-VoIP is competitive in terms of pricing, reliable, easy to use and includes almost all the basic features you want in a VoIP service. There are some annoying limitations to the service though, such as the lack of a mobile app and no video conferencing capability.
Internet has revolutionized every aspect of our lives and communication is definitely one of them. VoIP technologies are slowly but surely replacing landlines, for both residential use and business purposes. Voice over Internet Protocol services are more affordable, versatile and easy to set up and maintain.
You can use VoIP to make and take calls, for video conferencing, to share text, image, audio and video files. All these are done through the internet and you can make calls through softphones (software). Specialized hardware is not a must, you can use VoIP with just your computer, smartphone and a headset. However, if you want to use your phone with VoIP, most providers allow you that and offer you necessary adapters.
VoIP systems are easy to install, fast, secure, flexible and easy to use. Most VoIP providers even allow you to keep your old phone number and port it to their service, if you don’t want to receive a new number.
1-VoIP has been around for more than 40 years but went through several rebranding phases. The company started as a telecom company but transitioned to VoIP services in 2005. Since then, 1-VoIP offers cloud-based solutions for both residential and business use.
Available plans and features
There are 3 plans for Residential customers: Value, US & Canada Unlimited and World Unlimited. (See pricing below)
Value is their most basic and affordable plan. It includes unlimited incoming minutes, 500 minutes to North America and hardware. This plan comes with NO term commitment and there are no cancellation fees charged.
The US & Canada Unlimited plan includes unlimited calls to North America and free shipping.
World Unlimited, which is their most premium plan for residential VoIP, includes unlimited calls to 30 countries and all the features in the other plans.
1-VoIP includes the same features with all three plans. The only difference is the number of calls included and free shipping for all plans except the Value one.
The company lets you choose between their available phone numbers or you can keep your old number. The hardware is included with each plan. You rent the hardware and have to return it when you cancel your contract with them. You can use 1-VoIP with both analog and digital phones and any necessary adapters are provided by the company.
Unfortunately, what is missing from 1-VoIP’s set of features is a mobile app, which can be a deal breaker for some people.
Here are the most important features included with the Residential service:
Although the list of features offered by 1-VoIP’s is quite extensive, there are some essential tools missing, for instance, video conferencing or web SMS.
Overall, 1-VoIP Residential is an affordable service and one that includes all the basic features sought for in a VoIP service. However, there are some hard to overlook shortcomings that can be real deal breakers, such as: video conferencing, SMS, the lack of a mobile app.
