PROS:
CONS:
The G9 Random Orbital is a favorite among many, and it is not hard to see why. It is the perfect balance between an affordable price tag and very good performance. It is also built well, and is easy to use for long polishing sessions. It feels like a very good steal with its price range, which is why we highly recommend it.
Griot’s Garage’s G9 Random Orbital has been very popular among many car enthusiasts, and for good reason. After all, it is a good blend between powerful performance and an affordable price tag.
Packaging
The G9 comes in a well-designed box. Upon opening, you will see a pamphlet teaching you about polishing methods and products. It is printed on thick paper and contains many photos, making it a good collectible for car enthusiasts. You will find the polisher tightly packed. Its cord is present at the bottom of the box. It also has a small tool bag containing additional brushes as well as instructions on using the polisher.
Along with the main product, you also get a 14 mm backing plate wrench.
Overall, it has a solid packaging design that is a nice balance between aesthetics and practicality.
At its price, we were surprised with how well the G9 Random Orbital Polisher is built. It feels expensive and durable for a long term because of the unit design. Its performance is also better compared to more expensive counterparts as we’ve seen from its polishing results and minimal vibrations. Because of this, we highly recommend it, both for beginners and polishing experts.
While the Cons of this unit were a bit nitpicky , we can say that this is one of the best overall values in polishing today. It has taken the number one spot from the older model, which is still amazing if you can find it at all, so we can easily say that it would be very hard to beat this polisher. It can take a beating and provide great results.
Unit design
Upon first seeing it, we immediately saw that they dedicate effort to ensuring a longer lifetime for the unit. For example, it contains many ridges at the end of the cord to prevent damage coming from bending. Next, the cord itself is at 10 feet, making it easy to work on different spots of the car. This cord also has a velcro strap, which is always appreciated.
Even at its price range, the unit feels expensive because of its good rubber design. It also has a well-designed shroud grip that makes it easy to hold for extensive use. It has enough space for four fingers, and its snout makes it easy to rest the other parts of your hand. Its ergonomic platypus shape makes it easy to change your polishing angle, too.
It also has a vented backing plate to help in removing dust in the car’s surface and for cooling it down. This makes it easy to use continuously while having less risk of burning the paint. You can use either a 5” or 6” orbital backing plate.
The polisher has 6 speeds available, but it is not variable. This may take some time to adjust to, but with the help of the speed lock, it is easy to get familiar with after some use.
Performance
When it came to performance, G9 definitely did not disappoint. At 8.5 amps and 1000 watts, it has one of the best polishing results we’ve seen. It is easy to polish painting flaws and minor scratches within minutes of using it. Its random orbital motion also makes it beginner-friendly. It also doesn’t get hot easily.
The best part is that it barely vibrates, making it good to be used for a long time. It also polishes well with just the right amount of pressure. You can even use it in one hand because it does not give too much bounce. This, along with its ergonomic shape, makes it a very good choice for everybody.
You can also feel how distinct the speed differences are. For the best results, we recommend staying between the options of 4-5 for the average polishing needs.
Our only complaint is that it is quite loud when used. You will get used to its volume after quite a while, though.
