PROS:
CONS:
SugarSync prides itself in being one of the best online backup services with an excellent file syncing feature that allows you to connect all your devices and share only what you choose. There are three individual subscription plans ranging from 100-500GB as well as two business plans of 1TB+. If you want a fast and easily accessible online backup service for a sensible monthly cost, SugarSync is a great solution.
We’ve reviewed many different online backup services and while SugarSync isn’t the best, it fared well enough for us to include it in our line up. It doesn’t offer truly unlimited storage and it could be cheaper, but it does have great features and a desktop app that makes SugarSync one of the easiest backup services we’ve used.
Value for money
SugarSync offers five different plans, three for individual/home use, and two for business purposes. The three home plans come in appropriately sized versions: 100, 250 and 500GB with the medium plan being the most popular. The business plans offer much larger storage areas as well as some premium features like an admin control option that lets you manage user access for groups or teams you make, live phone support and a remote wipe option. The 1TB business plan comes with an option of choosing up to nine users, while the Custom business plan offers coverage for larger teams of 10+ users for a specific storage size you request.
The most popular individual plan allows for up to 250GB of online storage at $9.99/month ($119.88/year). Even though this is much less space than some other services we reviewed, SugarSync offers many great features with all their plans. In addition, you can try out your desired subscription for 30 days before you commit to buy.
Features
SugarSync has one of the easiest file syncing solutions in our review. You can connect multiple device and sync all, or just selected files across all of your devices with great ease. The MySugarSync desktop folder allows you to drag and drop the files you wish to share and they will automatically be synced across all your connected devices. With the file versioning option you can access up to five versions of a specific file which comes in useful if you need to go back a step or two.
One of the best things about SugarSync is the clean and intuitive design of its control panel. You can get anywhere in just a few clicks and all features and actions are clearly marked so there’s no room for confusion. The integrated search bar allows you to look up specific files when you’re uploading in a bulk.
One of the things that sets SugarSync apart from its competition is that it allows for big, bulky file sharing. You can share folders and send invite links to any large social media platform. Since this specific feature offers a gallery window, it makes it perfect for sharing larger volumes of photos or videos with the people you choose. With the number of clicks each photo/video attracted, you have a clear overview of the popularity of the media you published. You can also share folders and allow other people access to the files you pick.
At any time, you can manually sync the photos from your iPhone or Android device or you can set up an automatic backup so you don’t have to worry about it. The SugarSync mobile app also allows you to sync photos/videos from your phone to any other connected PC.
SugarSync uses the industry standard 256-bit AES encryption to secure your files during transfer as well as while they’re idle on the server. The online data backup service store files on the highly secure Amazon S3 servers and guarantees no unnecessary and unauthorized access to your files.
