PROS:
CONS:
The KitchenAid 5-Speed Diamond is a standard blender suited for home use. It has a competitive price, a nice, smart design and a durable pitcher. It is easy to use and clean and it is very good at crushing ice and preparing smoothies. It doesn’t have the abilities and power of a professional, high-end blender, but it also costs half as one and it has a good overall value.
KitchenAid is a very old American company, on the market since 1919. It specializes in kitchen appliances and it began as a stand mixers manufacturer. It is currently owned by Whirlpool Corporation.
The KitchenAid 5-speed Diamond (also known as KSB1575) is one of their best selling blenders. It features a 670 watts and 0.9 peak HP motor with Intellispeed control, a patented Diamond pitcher design and it comes in 16 available colors.
Specifications:
The fact that it comes in so many available colors is definitely a plus, because you can choose one that matches your kitchen. At a height of 16.5 inches on the other hand though, color might not be your first priority, as this blender can give you a hard time when it comes to storage. It is too tall to fit under some cabinets.
The KitchenAid 5 does compensate with its special features: the Intelli-Speed motor control and the Diamond design.
The Intelli-speed motor control can basically sense the ingredients you put in the blender and adjust its speed accordingly, in order to blend them properly.
The patented diamond pitcher design is extremely durable, it resists to scratches and stains and it is easy to clean. It is also dishwasher safe. Moreover, we really appreciate their warranty policy. The KitchenAid 5-speed comes with one year replacement guarantee, which means that if anything breaks during the first year of use, you just send it back and they’ll send you a new one. You don’t have to wait for slow service or sparing parts.
The KitchenAid 5-Speed has 5 modes, each with its designated button: stir, chop, mix, puree and liquefy. There is also a ‘Crush ice’ button and a ‘Pulse’ one, with five settings.
We managed to get the best results when making smoothies (not green ones though, because it can struggle with green leaves) and crushing ice. However, we weren’t too impressed with the blender’s abilities to deal with seeds and nuts, as they weren’t finely ground.
The lid can also be used as an ingredient cup, with ounce/ml markings. As far as its capacity to stay fixed goes, there were a few occasions in which it came off way too easy than it was supposed to.
Overall, we find the KitchenAid 5 Speed blender easy to use and a good kitchen appliance for personal use. It is not suited for professional/industrial purposes, but it has a good value for the money. It is not necessarily a high-end option, but a good, standard blender for you everyday needs.
You can get the KitchenAid 5 Speed Diamond on Amazon for $115. The regular price on the KitchenAid website is $159.99.
