SUMMARY:

The Oster Versa blender has the price of a budget blender and the features and power of a professional one. We appreciated the versatility of the blender, its ease of use and the powerful yet silent motor. While we did find some minor flaws in its design and jar material, we consider the Oster Versa has a good overall value and a fair price.

COMPLETE REVIEW

The Oster Versa blender is a high-end kitchen appliance that comes at a very affordable price. While the fact that it is manufactured in China may sound a bit unappealing to some, this blender is a professional machine that won’t disappoint you and is worth every cent. Rumor has it that the Oster Versa is a cheap imitation of the Vitamix, but as far as we’re concerned, the Oster Versa has all the features of a ‘professional performance blender’, as claimed on the official website.

The Oster Versa comes in 4 different models: BLSTVB-103-000 and BLSTVB-104-000 which have a power of 1100 watts and BLSTVB-RV0-000 and BLSTVB-000-000, with a power of 1400 watts. The 1400 watts models are similar except for their containers, which differ in shape (the BLSTVB-000-000 has a slimmer jar).

We are going to focus on the 1400 watts blender.

The Oster Versa 1400 has the following specifications:

  • BPA-Free Tritan Jar with a capacity of 8 cups
  • 6 pronged stainless steel blade
  • Duralast All Metal Drive with a 10 year warranty, guaranteed to blend up to 10,000 smoothies
  • 28,000 RPMs
  • Weight: 12.7 lbs
  • Dimensions: 1 X 16.8 X 11.6 inches (H X W X L)
  • Cord Length: 16 inches
  • Voltage: 230 volts

The Oster Versa has a pulse feature and you can also control the speed manually from the big round button. There are 10 variable speeds to choose from. Given the power of this blender, we were pleased to notice it is quieter than most competitors in its range. Most blenders with a 1400 watts motor are considerably noisier.

The Oster Versa has 3 programmed settings: smoothie, soup and dips/spreads.

The 64 ounce jar is large enough for you to prepare meals or drinks for 2, 3 people.

The design of the blender is very straightforward and the Oster Versa is very easy to use.

We did notice there was no locking system between the pitcher and the base, which might translate into a big mess if you are not careful, because you might end up with the top-half on the floor, along with your delicious smoothie. On the other hand, the Oster Versa does come with a spill-proof lid.

Some people are also not big fans of the plastic jar, but at least, you can rest assured there won’t be any toxins involved, because the jar is BPA free. It may also help to know that the Oster Versa comes with a 7-year warranty.

This blender is very versatile. While it may not shine at a particular task, it does a decent job regardless of the meal/drink it has to prepare. You can obtain delicious smoothies, soups, dips, frozen drinks, purees, etc. You can chop your vegetables and grind your coffee beans.

The one thing we weren’t too happy with was the way it kneads dough and crushes ice. Regarding the latter, although it manages to make a decent job, we could still find some chunks of ice after blending.

In terms of cleaning the Oster Versa, the blender is not dishwasher safe but it is easy enough to clean that you won’t really feel the need for a dishwasher. The fact that it comes with an inbuilt blade pretty much makes it self-cleaning. You just have to add some water and soap and pulse it for half a minute.

Overall, we were pleasantly surprised by the way the Oster Versa works. Although it is a budget blender, it comes with top-notch features and a generous 7 year warranty.

Pricing

The Oster Versa blender can be purchased for $249.99 (both the BLSTVB-RV0-000 and BLSTVB-000-000 models). The blender comes with a tamper and two recipe books.
