PROS:
CONS:
The Miele Scout RX1 has its pros and cons. It has good cleaning abilities, it is quiet and has a good battery life. However, it is also worth mentioning that it is quite heavy, doesn’t have an app/WiFi and can’t perform equally well on all types of surfaces.
The Miele Scout RX1 is designed by Miele, a German company that specializes in household appliances. With almost 120 years of existence on the market, Miele has succeeded to earn a good reputation with its high-end products, whether they are vacuum cleaners, washing machines, coffee machines, refrigerators or others.
The Scout RX1 is a smart robot vacuum, with a good battery life, good cleaning abilities and a ceiling camera.
Here are some of its main specifications:
Design
The design of the Scout RX1 is average. It is not the lightest robot vacuum you’ll find and it is available in silver or red.
It has several brushes: 2 rotating ones on the sides and a turbo brush. It has sensors both on the front and on the bottom, to prevent it from falling down the stairs or colliding with furniture and other objects (although it still bumps into obstacles quite often). It has a ceiling camera to help it map the area it’s about to clean.
There is a screen on the front with touch controls for actions such as start/pause and you can also have the clock displayed.
The Scout RX1 lacks a handle so transporting it from one place to another may not be as easy as with other robot vacuums.
Features and performance
The Scout RX1 comes with a remote control and has 5 cleaning modes, including the Remote Control one. You can choose between auto, corner, spot, turbo (which is 50% faster than the auto mode) and the remote control mode, which allows you to stir the robot yourself, with the help of the remote.
The ceiling camera helps it map the area and then the Scout uses its Smart Navigation technology to systematically clean the room, using a Gyro sensor.
The robot comes with a magnetic strip you can use to restrict its access to certain areas. You can purchase additional strips from the Miele website. You’ll also get 2 replacement filters and a set of side brushes in the box.
The Scout RX1 can be controlled through the touch-sensitive buttons or the remote control. You can change cleaning modes or set the timer of the vacuum to do a full cleaning.
In case you were hoping for it, you should know there is no available app for the Scout RX1.
When it comes to its performance, there are pros and cons with the RX1. One pro is the fact that this vacuum is impressively quiet, despite its relatively high suction power. It is also highly effective on certain surfaces, mainly carpets and even rugs. It can boldly overcome thresholds, too. It can successfully remove almost any type of dirt/debris, including pet hair.
On the downside, it doesn’t really cope well with hard floors and even though it is packed with sensors of all sorts, it still bumps into things quite often. More often than not, it manages not to get stuck, but its anti collision sensors are not as impressive as you would expect them to be.
The runtime of the RX1 is really good. It can go for 2 hours (or 1,600 square feet) on a single charge, which is a good time.
There are things you are going to like and dislike about the Miele Scout RX1, but overall, it is a decent robot vacuum which does have its strengths to consider.
The Scout RX1 will cost you approximately $600.
