COMPLETE REVIEW

The Samsung WF42H5000AW is a 4.2 cu. ft. front loader that carries on that sleek, futuristic Samsung design.

While it doesn’t have any special unique features about it and it is average in performance, it is a high-quality and efficient washing machine.

Here are the main specifications of the WF42H5000AW:

  • Dimensions: 27 X 38 ¾ X 33 inches
  • Capacity: 4.2 cu. ft.
  • Energy consumption: 85 kWh/year, Energy Star Certified
  • Maximum spin speed: 1,200 RPM
  • 8 washing cycles
  • Direct Drive Motor
  • Diamond drum
  • Ice blue LED display

Design

The WF42H5000AW comes in white and can be paired with the matching electric dryer, the DV42H5000EW/A3. This washer is a bit large, so make sure you do some measurements before buying it, especially if you’ve got limited space.

The washer looks elegant and has a relatively simple and organized control panel with a bright, blue LED display and big, visible touch controls. There is also a big rotating knob in the middle, which lets you switch between washing cycles. There are 3 dispenser trays: main wash, bleach and softener. There is a small door on the bottom which gives you access to the filter. Samsung recommends you clean the filter at least once a month, but it is really accessible and overall an easy task.

The WF42H5000AW has a drum light so you can load your laundry in dim light/dark and the diamond drum is gentle on your laundry and protects your clothing.

Features and performance

While it looks and seems average in features and design, the WF42H5000AW has a few particularities that make it a competitive product. One of them is the fact that it is very energy efficient, rated ‘Energy Star most efficient”. This washer has a consumption of only 85 kWh/year.

The capacity is average, 4.2 cu. ft., which translates into 2.8 laundry baskets per wash.

All the controls on the WF42H5000AW are really straightforward and the washer is very easy to use.

The WF42H5000AW has 8 washing cycles: normal, heavy duty, bedding, rinse + spin, quick wash, perm press, delicates, active wear.

The Heavy Duty cycle works really well and needs 90 minutes. It can remove pretty much all the common stains you can think of.

The Normal cycle takes 56 minutes, while the Quick Wash, designed for smaller loads of laundry, takes 28 minutes to complete.

There are aspects in which the WF42H5000AW is not as complex as other washers in its price range. There is no Sanitize cycle and you don’t have a Steam Cleaning feature either. The WF42H5000AW doesn’t have WiFi capabilities, nor does it work with the Smart Home app from Samsung. What you do get is the Smart Care app, which lets you find solutions to potential issues using your smartphone. The app is compatible with iOS and Android devices.

Another useful feature on the WF42H5000AW is its patented VRT technology which reduces vibrations and makes your washer very quiet.

In terms of temperature, spin and soil level settings, you’ve got 4 temperature settings to choose from (cold, eco warm, warm and hot), 4 spin settings (no spin, low, medium and high) and 3 soil settings (light, normal and heavy).

You’ve also got a sound on/off button and cute tunes for when the washer starts and ends its cycle. There are also two buttons for extra rinse and extra spin.

In conclusion, the WF42H5000AW3 has its pros and cons. While it doesn’t come with all the bells and whistles such as WiFi connection, smart home integration, Sanitize and Steam Clean cycles, it does compensate through a really elegant and clean design, its straightforward, user-friendly control panel, the fact that it is not as noisy as most washers and it has a really effective Heavy Duty washing cycle. The WF42H5000AW is mid-priced, so while it won’t break the bank, it won’t be among the most affordable washing machines you can find either.

Pricing

The WF42H5000AW is priced at $757 on the Samsung website.
