PROS:
CONS:
Although PC-Tune Up did register an increase in our benchmark test, the 5 percent improved overall performance isn’t high enough to be considered significant. This particular registry cleaner has an intuitively designed app that is suitable for both novice and advanced users. The included startup optimizer is a useful feature for further improving your PC’s performance.
PC Tune-Up is a highly customizable registry repair software whose developers claim it can boost your PC’s performance levels significantly. The repair app itself is intuitive and simple to use, yet with many adjustable options for advanced users. When we performed our performance test on PC Tune-Up it slightly improved the test PCs performance levels.
PC Tune-Up is different than other registry cleaners we reviewed since it’s designed to be used by users of any computer skill set, while remaining highly customizable to suit the more advanced users. PC Tune-Up’s strong point is surely its startup optimizer feature. This feature allows you to manually select the apps you wish to start with your system. By controlling which apps boot up with your computer you are essentially speeding up your PC. Many apps you install are preprogramed to start when Windows starts so running a startup optimizer from time-to-time is a good idea. PC Tune-Up also allows you to go back in your registry’s history before you made any fixes that might have caused some present complications. By going a step back, you can find the problematic entry and exclude it from further scans.
At the time we wrote this review, Large Software was running a promotional offer on PC Tune-Up by offering it for just under $20. Even with its full price, this registry repair software has a lot to offer for what is an average price for a registry cleaner.
To check just how valid PC Tune-Up’s claims of boosted performance are, we put the registry repair software through a series of tests. We tested the registry cleaners on an eight-year-old computer that is exceptionally slow. Throughout the test we used a benchmarking software first to set the baseline performance result before installing any registry repair software, and later we ran it again to see what kind of an impact the app had on the test PC’s performance.
By discovering 823 mistakes in the Windows registry, PC Tune-Up increased the test computer’s speed by 3.7 percent. This overall improvement incorporates the 5 percent increase to the processing of words and data and a smaller decrease in all other measured areas (graphics processing, web browsing speed and video chat quality). Despite these mixed results, any score below 15 percent isn’t considered significant and it’s mainly detectable only through benchmarking software.

Large Software has the least helpful website we’ve come across since we started our review process. There is an apparent absence of any kind of FAQ area or a knowledgebase. If you wish to contact a customer support agent you can only do so through email. The webpage doesn’t offer any extra resources like how-to videos or downloadable manuals.
