SUMMARY:

Rose City Software’s registry repair app found a record number of Windows registry errors among all the other software in our review. It caused a minimal overall performance increase while slowing down the PC in other areas of the test. Their support page is virtually non-existent so if you need to find help, you will have to comb the web to find your answers. All in all, Registry First Aid is a good registry cleaner with a few additional features at a fair price.

COMPLETE REVIEW

Registry First Aid promises to maximize your PC’s performance by keeping it tuned and error free. Although the registry repair app found a few thousand issues in the Windows registry, our benchmarking software didn’t register a noticeable performance improvement. While Registry First Aid found and fixed all errors it came upon, it actually caused a decrease in performance of some areas it was tested.

Registry First Aid is designed like most other registry cleaners - to be accessible for both novice and advanced users. The main window itself has a simple, clear design with options clearly marked for easier navigation. One issue that might cause beginner users to have some difficulty with the app is that once it finds 1000 mistakes, it automatically stops. Unless you read the notification closely, you might think it finished entirely leaving your Windows registry vulnerable with undiscovered errors. Though a nuisance for novice users, this issues can be solved in a few clicks by opting out of it in the settings menu. Registry First Aid also comes with a backup feature, a highly valued option among registry repair software. This commodity is crucial since some changes you make to the Windows registry can be fatal for other apps on your PC. Having a restore point to fall back to and revert these changes can be a lifesaver. While a registry defrag tool is also a part of the package.

Pricing

Costing under $30, Registry First Aid is an affordable registry repair software that comes with a few additional utilities. Like most other registry cleaners, Registry First Aid only covers one PC under its license. To secure up to 5 PCs, you can buy the Family Pack at a 60 percent discount at $55.90. If you already own an older version of the app you might be eligible for a free upgrade, or a 40 percent discount on the new version.

Performance

To determine which registry repair software deserves to be on our top ten list, we looked at the impact the registry cleaner had on the overall performance of the PC it was tested on. To get clear, unbiased results we used a benchmarking software to get the baseline performance result of our eight-year-old PC. After running the registry repair app we measured the overall impact the sweep had on the speed at which graphics and words/data were being processed as well as the decrease/improvement of video chat quality. Web browsing speed was also taken into account. We used the overall score as the main parameter for our ranking.

Rose City Software’s Registry First Aid found and repaired 8736 registry issues, a record number in its category. Unfortunately, while doing so the registry repair app only improved the overall performance of the test PC by less than 1 percent. While running its scans the software slowed down word/data processing by 2.8 percent while slightly improving graphics processing and video chat quality. Web browsing speed was also hit with a small 1.7 decrease. These mixed results don’t mean much in the overall performance sense, since anything less than 15 percent isn’t noticeable without a benchmarking software. Despite the high praises by all their developers, none of the registry repair software we reviewed made any significant impact on the overall state of the PC they were tested on.

Help/Support

Website: www.rosecitysoftware.com/reg1aid

Registry First Aid has a very dated site that isn’t too informative. Except from submitting a contact ticket for tech support, there is no other way of contacting a customer support representative. The tutorial and FAQ page are in dire need of an update. Altogether, Registry First Aid doesn’t offer too many options for its user to solve their possible issues.
