PROS:
CONS:
With an increase in just over 2 percent, Registry Tuner didn’t boost the test PC’s performance in a noticeable way. It has a simple design you can easily navigate through, and the startup optimizer feature is intuitive so the app itself is very suitable for novice users.
Lavasoft is a well-known name in the internet security industry with its Ad-Aware anti-malware software. It’s been on the market since 1999, constantly growing and developing new software that can fight internet threats as they surface. A less know part of its family is the Registry Tuner software that is tasked with finding and repairing Windows registry errors. By fixing the issues it comes upon, the app is supposed to optimize your PC for best performance. Although Lavasoft’s registry cleaner did boost our test PC’s performance, it wasn’t a spectacular increase compared to other products we tested.
Registry Tuner was designed to be accessible by everyone. The elementary scan and repair feature is just two clicks away. All five tabs in the app are clearly marked so there’s minimal room for confusion. This registry repair software also creates a restore point you can go back to after running any fixes, in case your computer starts experiencing issues it previously didn’t. Registry Tuner also has a startup optimizer feature that prioritizes apps based on how essential they are and boots only selected ones with the system. Since this feature runs automatically without the need to manually select the programs you’d like to turn off from starting with your computer, it makes it very convenient for novice users. Not having too many programs rise with your system can make a huge difference in the speed your computer starts.
Without any special discounts or promotions, Registry Tuner goes for $29.95 on the Lavasoft website. Occasionally you will get the opportunity to take a few dollars of, or snag another piece of software free if you stumble upon a promotion. The basic one-year subscription covers only one PC, but in case you need more of your devices secured, an additional computer per year subscription would be an added $15 approximately. You can also try the software for a 30-day trial period before committing to buy.
To test how valid claims about speeding up your PC from different registry repair software developers are, we instated a test that we subjected all the products in our review to. All registry cleaners were tested on the same slow, nine-year-old computer. Before running any scans, we ran a benchmarking software to get the default state we could later compare the tested software results to. After we ran the registry repair app we looked at how many errors it found and how efficient it was in resolving them. The final step was running the benchmark program again to measure just how much of a boost the test PC got thanks to the registry clean-up.
In the initial part of the performance test, Registry Tuner found 105 mistakes inside the Windows registry. Compared to the other top five software in our review this is minimal, since Registry Reviver found almost 6000. Fortunately, the number of found errors isn’t necessarily an indicator of an app’s efficiency, but rather the percentile it boosts the PC’s performance by. The benchmarking software registered only 2.2 percent increase in the overall performance of our aged computer. Despite the overall increase, the app actually slowed down the web browsing speed and it decreased the quality of video chat. A slight improvement was also recorded while measuring the speed at which graphic content was processed. Even though we recorded these result for comparison purposes, no increase, or decrease of less than 15 percent is considered significant.
