SUMMARY:

The Dyson Supersonic is an innovation on the hair dryers market. It uses a completely new technology, a digital motor placed in the handle and a heat-protection sensor that keeps the temperature from getting to high and damaging your hair. It can help you dry your hair even 50% faster than most blow dryers and it has a modern, compact design. All these high-end features come with a price though and it is a steep one that not everybody is willing to pay.

COMPLETE REVIEW

Dyson Ltd was founded in 1987 and it is primarily known for its vacuum cleaners, fans and heaters. The company has managed to revolutionize the hair dryers market with its Dyson Supersonic, a hair dryer like you’ve never seen before.

The Supersonic looks like it came from the future. It is an extravagant, high-performance dryer that costs $400. While it is not exactly the kind of price you would ever consider paying for a blow dryer, this is far from being an ordinary dryer. It is a high-tech tool in which the company invested over $70 million and gathered over 100 engineers to work on developing the Supersonic.

Main specs:

  • Dimensions: 15.2 x 10.5 x 3.9 inches
  • Weight: 4.65 pounds
  • Digital V9 motor (10,000 RPM)
  • 4 heat settings, 3 airflow settings
  • Cold shot button
  • Magnetic concentrator, smoothing nozzle, diffuser
  • Hand-finished, leather wrapped case included

The design of the Supersonic is simply beautiful. It comes in several available colors: silver and white, nickel/purple (limited edition), Fuchsia, red. The hair dryer is compact, relatively small and has a comfortable handle. It has a small digital motor that is placed in the handle of the dryer, which makes the Supersonic more weight balanced. You can feel that when holding the dryer in your hand, as it doesn’t tire your arm even if you use it for a longer period of time. The only buttons on the handle are the power and the cold shot ones. The other two buttons, which control the airflow and heat setting are placed on the head of the Supersonic. There are three settings for speed and 4 settings for heat level (constant cold included). The cool thing about the Supersonic is that it saves your settings when you turn off the dryer.

The attachments are all magnetic so they easily click them on and they won’t fall off as it is the case with many standard dryers. The dryer comes in a beautifully crafted leather wrapped case.

The Dyson Supersonic uses AirMultiplier technology, producing 41 liters of air/second. The powerful, high velocity airflow dries up your hair extremely fast and without damaging it. To be more exact, in our tests, the Supersonic proved to be 50% faster than other dryers we tried. The Supersonic also has a sensor that measures the temperature 20 times/second and keeps it constant so it won’t damage your hair due to extreme heat. Your hair will maintain its natural shine. This technology is extremely useful especially for people with fragile hair.

The dryer is also impressively quiet, compared to any other dryers we’ve tested so far. James Dyson himself claims that the dryer is designed in such a way that the motor works on a frequency ‘beyond the audible range for humans’. There is also a rubber mount that limits the vibration between the handle and the motor inside it. While we could still hear the Supersonic when turned on, the noise level is indeed way lower than with standard blow dryers.

The Dyson Supersonic is without a doubt a groundbreaking product. Regardless of your type of hair or style preferences, this dryer can be your reliable home hair stylist and can help you have a good hair day every day. Its only downside, if you can call it that, is the steep price, but as far as we’re concerned, in terms of blow dryers, this is a lifetime investment.

Pricing

On the official website, the Dyson Supersonic can be purchased for $399.99. The product comes with free shipping, 30-day money back guarantee and a 2-year warranty.
